Background
This attempt, at documenting our ancestors’ history began back in the first week of September 2005, when my uncle Stig Wiklund from Enköping called me and explained that an entire family from USA had come to Sweden to, among others, find their roots in Dal, Domsjö, Själevad Parish.
The family members who visited were Dr. Ralph Peterson with his children Brad, Laura and Don, plus daughter Carolyn with her husband Werner, and their grandchild Patrick.
I had the great pleasure of guiding the family in our municipality, with visits in Dal and the place where Ralph’s mother Astrid grew up together with Johan and Stina’s 13 children.
It was then and there my interest in the Svedin family’s history achievements began. The story is special as 4 of Johan and Stina’s children emigrated to the USA beginning in the early 1900’s.
When I was able to share the great interest and curiosity Dr. Ralph Peterson demonstrated, I understood how much our origins mean as we age, and the significance of the path we have walked and continue to walk together.
I have maintained contact with the Peterson siblings over the years and visited them in April 2007 together with my sons Andreas and Johan. The time we spent together back then, and the warmth which we were met with, have impacted me, and is something I will carry along with me forever.
My wife Maria and I began our genealogical research over Midsummer weekend in 2019 when we hosted Brad Peterson and his daughter Iris. We had the pleasure of telling our guests what we knew about Johan and Stina’s story.
The genealogical research I have done is the result of gathering facts where Tony Korpenklo is and has been my door opener, and without his help, this project would have taken much longer to carry out.
Reestablishing contact with my relatives, none mentioned, none forgotten, via e-mail and telephone has been a true pleasure and the experience has put a smile on my face. But, I need to give special thanks to Kerstin and Ture Vestin, who contributed so many anecdotes, photos and otherwise expressed their joy about our family tree.
I hope that you will visit our family tree on Ancestry, take your time to follow our ancestors’ journey and that you will let me know if you have any photos, anecdotes, or other information that may be beneficial to your fellow relatives.
